“As parents we want to shield our children from the darkness of the world. We cover them so that they are protected yet hidden from whatever lies in that darkness. Through the years we continue to protect them, to guide them and  nurture them, until the day they are ready to remove that cover.

In this painting, the young girl is the artist’s daughter and the attire that she wears is her cover, that he created to shield her. However the hood is removed in this painting,  indicating that she no longer wants to hide from the darkness that surrounds her.

She is aware of the light within her and she wants to spread it to the world around her. As parents our constant love and support has grown this uncontrollable light, that we don’t want the world to dim. Not knowing that the same light can brighten the world and everything in it. She removes her hood and becomes that beacon in the darkness, and spreads her light to everything that she touches.“- Brittney Baez
